Fashion accessories trends are constantly transforming, influenced by the context in which we live and the eclectic creativity of designers. HOMI Fashion&Jewels Exhibition since 2020 has been using the collaboration of Poli.Design to explore trends more closely and understand the evolution of consumer behavior.
Below is a brief journey through the trend scenarios recounted in recent editions of the event.
It describes worlds that seemed so far away but are actually becoming reality. Nature regaining the upper hand, winning over waste, superficial choices and becoming the priority for consumers and companies. Sustainable actions such as the use of recycled materials or the new life of objects are key. At the same time, the fear that the Earth is no longer enough, accelerates the exploration of the universe.
Nature Supremacy tells of nature’s supremacy over the artificial world. A protagonist of the present, the natural world is enhanced, safeguarded and used as formal inspiration.
Space on Earth takes the formal and superficial inspirations that come from space and transfers them into the real world. Spacesuits, futuristic-looking inflatable accessories and alien spacecraft descend to Earth to invade it with their aesthetics.
Hyper Boom immerses itself in the digital world by capturing the languages of augmented reality, the technologies that increasingly populate objects and the aesthetics of numerical codes.
It emphasizes the beauty of contrasts, freedom of expression, indifferent to the judgment of others. In a contemporary context where likes dictate fame, success or define a person's talent, this trend aims to redefine the importance of being and not liking. It thus explicitly declares when one is trying to be something that one is not; excesses are not hidden but peculiarities are enhanced.
Wannabe is what one would like to be. It is a race against stereotypes interrupted by the urge to express oneself, a desire to play the role of someone else, an awareness of the impossibility of achieving the myth of perfection.
Overflow captures the beauty of the soft shapes of the body and its irregular, welcoming softness. Narrow volumes, defined by too narrow containers, become manifestos for free self-expression.
Trial and Error celebrates the discovery of the best way to achieve a desired result or a correct solution by trying one or more ways and noticing, eliminating or accentuating errors. The process is repeated until perfection is achieved or until the imperfections are appreciated.
Poptimism is the result of the fusion of popular and optimism and is developed in exuberant, vibrant and unexpected shapes and colors. Designed for an ageless target in love with sustainable beauty, Poptimism contains notes of joy and liveliness in every microtrend: have fun is based on the idea of play and fun; classic goes crazy looks at sculptures and paintings of the past, altering them with contemporary and ironic elements; zoom booms enhances the peculiarities of the details; more is more is a hymn to excess in its maniacally ordered but also chaotic forms.
It is based on the idea of having fun linked to specific locations, such as amusement parks, or with iconic characters, such as Disney iconic ones, or even with items that require hands-on involvement, such as colouring books. Imagination overcomes reality and unusual elements interact with the body and with the user who plays with the jewels personalising their style.
Look at sculptures, paintings and marble art pieces from the past. Inspirations that speak of tradition that is now “losing it” and does so in different ways and in different languages: interactions involving the human body, activities such as collage that become new and unexpected representations, colours and movements that give a pop appearance to the ornament.
It exalts small details, those individual elements that together create new codes and new languages. Streets covered with cherry blossom trees, writings and words that can create different meanings, shapes and images that can create endless compositions. Individual letters are combined to create nouns, words or verbs and new body parts become a space for creative intervention.
It is about explosions, interpreted as a collection of unusual objects. More is more means giving new meaning to what we already have. Objects similar in characteristics, but each with its own personality, are collected on the body or reorganised meticulously to create geometric patterns or similar elements that repeat like memories that resurface.
Choiceland is the beauty of being free, the charm of being able to choose. Designed for Gen Z, it follows their love for sharing, self-expression and creativity. The fluidity and intersections that characterize Choiceland are developed in the following microtrends: hack the 90s subverts the ordinary in favor of surprising effects; antithesis emphasizes the splendor of contrast and diversity; broadcast leaves room for communication through words, drawings or textures; love is love celebrates love in all its forms.
It is based on the aesthetic rules of the ‘90s reinterpreted in a contemporary way. Distortion, glitch and neon define this multi-level scenario where each level interacts with the other creating new languages through a lens that deforms geometries or colours; modular spheres and squares that can generate new shapes by an unpredictable error; digital art and surreal environments inhabited by thermochromic materials and technological additions.
It speaks of the beauty of contrasts: full and empty, equal but different, black and white. Concave and convex volumes, halves that in their diversity actually match perfectly and create new and balanced languages and contrasts that live in the contours of the object and in its background as actors of a microtrend.
It is communication through different media. Black on white is the tool to give a tangible form to thoughts, to express oneself, to tell one's story and to do so in the most explicit way - through lettering, emojis - or in an indirect manner through mimetic items that become even more evident in the mysterious dynamic of discovery.
It tackles a contemporary theme: acceptance of all love, with pride, the importance of loving, of being together regardless of past rules. A place where imperfections are accepted and celebrated with the use of colours, geometries, the encounter of different languages that create maps, textures that are compact, a whole, yet free to express themselves.
Dreamscapes tells of dreamy, magical and imaginary worlds found in the small details of everyday life. Who are the people who inhabit these worlds? They are women who live with their heads in the clouds, romantic women who love to surround themselves with youthful objects, women who populate places that seem stolen from fairy tales and who wear extremely feminine clothes. A dreamy allure of neutral colours alternating with purple, pink, teal and blue in places, people and art installations that seem fluid and surreal.
The well-balanced combinations make all the difference and details, coming together, find their raison d'être, yielding to new forms.
Its a playful, colourful universe that giving a voice every adult's inner child. An idyllic return to a golden age whose forms become the canvas on which accessories are rethought for grown-ups.
Different sized bubbles, moving freely, charting the course for dynamic style. From bracelets to rings, bubbles conquer spaces, overflowing and enveloping them to escape conventions.
The goal is to investigate the connections between the real and digital worlds. The contemporary tribes of this macro-scene are intrigued and stimulated by cultural exchanges; they strongly believe in sharing ideals and styles and in the value of collaboration in real and virtual life, lives between which they constantly move. This sense of collective belonging that generates strength and harmony is translated into neutral tones alternating with vibrant reds and yellows that express the energy of the generation.
The networks are materially translated into dense, multidimensional textures that look to the past, using lace, or rest on the future, weaving relationships like a thousand combinations of threads.
Distancing is exorcised by bringing together even strongly opposing realities, creating a new, resolute language, in life and in the jewellery representing it. Each differently, but with one common denominator: unity.
The whole and the individual are both one and many at the same time, finding their new multicoloured, kaleidoscopic essence.
Rebirth as a progressive enlightenment following the darkness of the crisis. Arts, science and culture flourish thanks to a return to classicism, a reference to the original, to the natural. A response to a period of darkness that investigates the resources of the individual, the digital and the invisible with the aim of regaining possession of lost time through the small daily joys.
Rebirth is the rediscovery of oneself. Pleasures granted not to be shown and performed but to be enjoyed in a quiet emotional retreat. A return to childhood to enjoy the discovery of beauty in the simplicity of small things: a caress, an unexpected detail, a curious habit.
The contact is synthesized in a screen and the human body is selected in 16:9. A digital picture frame decides which parts of the body can be shown, decorated, embellished and emphasized. The head, the face, the ears and the neck are the absolute actors of a longdistance communication that resizes the surfaces that fashion and jewelry have always explored.
Breathe. Retake the open spaces and let the energy of the sun and light not only regenerate the spirit but also make what you wear shine. A chlorophyll photosynthesis that involves materials and surfaces that, thanks to their characteristics, are transformed when they come into contact with natural elements.
Deceive time with creative entertainment. Do It Yourself (DIY) promotes the idea that everyone can, through manual work, enjoy activities without the help of an expert. Depending on one’s skills and tastes, jewels with heterogeneous features will come to life even though they are generated from the same starting point.
Irrational escapes and illogical behavior as a reaction to the crisis and to an announced decline. Habits and lifestyles are transformed into a distorted and silent parallel world, frightening, to be faced with autarkic behaviors to feel the need of the world as little as possible or with new apotropaic artifacts to resist the uncertainty of the contemporary.
The order of priorities is revolutionized in apocalyptic scenarios. Everything is superfluous and there is only room for the essential: protection is indispensable. Face and hands refuse direct contact and dress in functional accessories that, while protecting the individual, decorate him/her and send messages to the observer.
The theme of the double uses two principles in order to grasp every deeper kind of reality. Contemporary superheroes wear a mask every day and face small daily challenges; nostalgic for the past they are intrigued by contaminations with contemporary grafts; interpreters of hidden meanings, they go beyond first impressions to discover the second face of things.
Viruses as a threat to the physical and virtual world. Organisms on the edge of life, among parasites and ornaments, take shape to be exorcised. They infiltrate the body and the dress, inhabit new dimensions and populate them with their frightening but, at the same time, fascinating features.
Objects to ward off evil influences or to propitiate luck, amulets and talismans become a contemporary tool for dealing with dystopian scenarios. Gems and crystals, memories of the past to ward off the future and superstitious readings of the zodiac signs are the actors in this scenario.
