Interview with Thais Bernardes - creative director and founder of Thais Bernardes Jewellery

Thais Bernardes tells her story at HOMI Fashion&Jewels Exhibition, which stems from a passion for fashion and jewellery. A story that comes from far away and unites Italy and Brazil.

Brazilian inspirations, Italian creation: This is the true essence of THAIS BERNARDES GIOIELLI, a brand that first and foremost represents the union between the cultures of these two countries.  "Brazil is my homeland and Milan is the city that welcomed me and passed on my love and passion for fashion and beauty", Thais Bernardes tells us. After several years as a professional model for many famous designers, in 2015 she embarked on a new professional adventure, founding the brand that bears her own name.

The Story

"The years of modelling were important years, and I had the opportunity to experience an exclusive reality characterised by a special creativity; I learned the value and importance of details, developing a passion for this world, which fascinated me since I was a child, when in Minas Gerais, in the South-East of Brazil, where I was born and grew up, I was conquered by the colours, the variety of materials of natural stones" (editor's note: the state of Minas Gerais is one of the largest producers of precious natural stones among the states of Brazil).

Five years ago, Thais decided to indulge her passion: she attended various schools in the sector (including Gemmology and Jewellery Design and Fashion Brand Management in Milan) and founded the Thais Bernardes Gioielli  brand, with the precise aim of creating jewellery in silver, gold and precious and semi-precious stones with a unique and inimitable design, combining Brazilian traditions and inspiration with Italian craftsmanship skills.

"All my creations are made in Italy, by artisans who are experts in the field and who can enhance beauty, elegance and quality. But in addition to the intrinsic beauty of the jewellery, it is important to me that each of my creations has a meaning, a specific message, and this also contributes to making my fashion jewellery unique".

Collections

There is a message to be found in all Thais' collections, whether it be attention to nature, a witness to particular emotions, or an interest in sustainability, a subject very dear to her heart.

For example, the Brazilian Soul collection is characterised by details such as feathers and parrot designs, which are a tribute to certain indigenous Brazilian tribes and embody particular meanings of strength and courage; or the Cipò line (the name of a type of Brazilian tree that is very dear to certain indigenous peoples) made entirely of gold-plated 925 silver, part of the proceeds from which are donated to an association that protects and defends the rights of certain Amazonian peoples.

"I would like my brand to be increasingly sustainable and ethical, so I very often use materials that come from situations that are sensitive to these issues, such as small mining communities. In this way, I can contribute to supporting some particular production realities, supporting them also with visibility actions, telling and sharing their stories and their peculiarities through my social networks".
