Underground: expressing your own personality

A concept that the new generations feel very close to is that of the street, with all its colours, signs and symbols. And one of the key words that helps us to understand what streets those communities move in, is “expression”: the expression of yourself, of your ideas and of your style. This is something the world of fashion has understood very well: it has made streetstyle and streetwear one of the most widely-used themes on the international catwalks.

Reading between the lines, though, there is an important message that is worth picking up on if we really want to understand tomorrow’s trends and the demands that will be coming from the market: people are expressing themselves through their style, not to be photographed, but to feel good.

So the streets are a new source of inspiration: not the downtown streets frequented by the bourgeoisie, but those on the outskirts of cities, with their street art: viaducts covered in colourful graffiti, metal bridges, strangely-shaped industrial sheds and out-of-town metro stations. Brands are offering items to create surprising styles featuring multi-coloured sneakers, ripped and stone-washed jeans and burnished chains.

In the world of jewellery we find it in the rivets covered in crystals or the charms of ethnic-tribal inspiration of Vivian Gioielli, in the worked silver of Quinto Ego and in the creations of Ahmaddy.
