From manufacturing to the finished product: Spain gets organised to strengthen its identity at the international level

Research, creativity and sharing: the ingredients of SEBIME's success: the Spanish Association of Manufacturers-Exporters of Costume Jewellery, Accessories and Fashion Components.

SEBIME is the Spanish Association of Manufacturers-Exporters of Costume Jewellery, Accessories and Fashion Components, an association that brings together companies representing almost the entire Spanish sector.  We interviewed the association’s Director, Carmen Lozano, to discover the long work behind each piece or collection, made of research, creativity and inter-cultural connections.

What products, materials or manufacturing processes best represent the Spanish spirit of the future?

The Spanish costume jewellery manufacturing sector is represented by a wide variety of companies: from manufacturers of components for costume jewellery or other fashion accessories to manufacturers for large buyers (wholesalers, department stores and so on) to artisans/designers with more limited collections but with highly innovative designs and materials. The distinctive logo "Bisutería de España", designed by SEBIME, tells all this and aims to strengthen the identity and position of Spanish costumer jewellery, conveying its distinctive values such as creativity, high quality and attractive design.

How important is "sustainability" in the Spanish fashion system?

Spanish fashion jewellery companies are starting to introduce sustainable development objectives into their production and management processes.   It is a long process that involves all the parties in the chain.  Customers are increasingly demanding these types of items and are interested in the production systems.

How does tradition meet contemporaneity and innovation?

Together with the French company PROMOSTYL, we introduce every year two books on trends: spring/summer and autumn/winter.  An important work that gathers useful information for all SEBIME members.  Handcrafted manufacturing processes adapt to the trends of each season: component manufacturers need to know the trends in advance to have the results available for when working on the finished product that is part of a larger collection.  It is a constant process of innovation that takes place at all levels and across all companies.
